Research Project

For this project, you will learn more about education in your community.

Imagine that you meet a person that is the same age, gender, and hometown as you. You become very good friends with this person and always enjoy each others' company.

However, your friend is not a student. Your friend is a construction worker and does physical labor almost everyday. This friend dropped out of school in third grade, and you want to help your friend have a brighter future.
===
For this project, you will interview a teacher from another school (not An Giang University). You will ask about people who drop out of school and want to continue. You may also find information from other sources (books, magazines, newspapers, internet). You will work alone. Any group work will be considered cheating unless approved by me.

==Information==
-What is a continuation school? What is the purpose?
-What is a vocational school? What is the purpose?
-What can of work are they unable to do?
-What must a student do to get a degree?
-Is it possible to study elementary school subjects when you are an adult, such as mathematics and reading?
-In the teacher's opinion, is it impossible for this student to get a college degree?
-If a student has studied only up to third grade, what skills will they have?
-If a student quits school at third grade, can they survive? What kind of work can they do?
-In the teacher's opinion, what should this student do? What classes should they take? What should they study? What career should they pursue?
-In the teacher's opinion, are they many students who drop out of the teacher's school? What is the main reason? What can the community do to reduce drop-outs?

==Interview==
-You may conduct the interview in Vietnamese, but you must translate the results into English.
-You may speak with any teacher that does not teach on the An Giang University campus. I suggest you interview teachers from your hometown.
-The teacher can teach any subject; it does not have to be an English teacher.
-If you need a letter of introduction, please ask me ahead of time.
-It will be difficult to find a teacher that has time to meet with you, I encourage you to try your hardest. Find a teacher to interview ASAP.

==Other Resources==
You can find other information from the internet, newspapers, books, and other teachers. However, you must get the most information from your interview.

==Report==
You will write a two-page, typed, Times New Roman 12' font, double-spaced essay that will be at least 475 words and at most 525 words. The report will summarize your interview, answer all the questions in the 'Information' section, and describe your experience during the project. There will be two drafts.

==Results==
-I will meet with you individually to discuss your findings. We will schedule meetings later.

==Schedule==
-First Draft of Report Due: October 26th 1:00 P.M.
-Meetings with Mark to discuss results and turn in Final Report: November 1st-7th

Good luck. This is a difficult assignment. If you have a question, you may ask me.
-Mark
